Jaya jam

Suresh and Devika Bhojwani, now regular Friday night jammers at nj-Jazz by the Bay, were the most successful performers of this weekend. Apparently the cast of Jaya also joined in as did the couple’s very good-looking son Karan. And they had the whole nj-Jazz by the Bay dancing away to their soulful tunes.

The place was simply buzzing and among those who were caught singing from the audience were Hasina and Tony Jethmalani, Arti and Kailash Surendranath as well as the diamond merchant Shekhar Mehta. Facing IDEAIDEA (the gym run by celeb wives Sunita Kapoor and Anita Shivdasani) now hopes to improve the face of Mumbai’s beautiful people. Their Hughes Road gym is already a favourite with many of South Mumbai’s well known faces such as Anish and Vinita Trivedi and Raj Kapoor’s daughter Reema Jain. And now they hope to lure in more clients with Diana. Diana, by the way is, a machine which gives you a non-surgical face-lift.

Disaster day OF course the talk of the weekend was the play SareJahan Se Achcha, which was quite a disaster. Most people left halfway through. The rest who stayed behind went home even more disappointed. Jug Mundra specially, because he came back early from his trip abroad to catch the play. Later the cast was spotted at Trattoria who blamed the disaster on technical snags. Incidentally on a table sitting very close to the cast were Bollywood actor Sanjay Kapoor with Maheep — looking every bit the loving couple.

Pub crawl

Which place was not crowded this Saturday! Whether it was The Pub, Copa Cabana, Fashion Cafe or Geoffrey’s. It seems there can never be enough places to party at for Mumbaikars. Seen at Geoffrey’s were Ravi Shastri, Nina Manuel and Ekta Kapoor with her pal Shernaz Treasurywala. The two of them seemed to be having a great time and were clicking photographs the whole night. But the two most packed pubs were Copa and Fashion (as it is now called). Fashion seems to have caught on well because it was so crowded that they even turned theirmembers away.

Wendell way

This Wednesday the Goa based designer, Wendell Rodricks, is holding a trunk show at Shopper’s Stop. Besides being a haute couture designer, this ace clothesman is also a consultant to the store. Unlike other big league designers, his collection will be understated and affordable. The reason? He believes that designer clothes should be available for everyday wear and not just for special occasions.

In the air

The air show that took place on Sunday really caught everybody’s fancy. Those who matter were invited to watch the show from The Oberoi poolside. The list included Manhor Joshi, Pramod Navalkar and Imitaz Dharkar. The sad thing was as soon as the show ended they all left not even waiting for Air Chief Marshall’s vote of thanks. He was left talking to only a handful of polite guests who stayed behind.

Bharat Shah loves to donate money for a good cause. He picked up items at both the Michael Jackson and the Richard Gere auctions. And now he has promised to donate around Rs two lakhs to CRY. The British Airways General Manager, Kevin Steele, is taking part in a sponsored weight loss programme to lose 50 pounds. And for each pound he loses, Bharat will donate one pound of gold. We wonder whether he really is worth his weight in gold!

And finally…

According to gossip mongers, Chunkey Pandey’s wife Bhavna is expecting. We wonder if, like sis-in-law Deanne, she too will go on Dr Snehlata’s diet after birth to shed her unwanted pounds.
