Ditto Designs
Last Thursday Raju and Esther Daswani of Charag Din, CD to the regulars, hosted a show to launch their new line, Ditto. This youthful trendy unisex line, developed to attract the under-25, includes some very wearable army style shirts with pockets, crinkled long-sleeved shirts and sweatshirts. In true CD style, there were also some rather garish, printed shirts which looked very Hawaiian.

short article insert Putting the show together was Sangeeta Chopra who used the staircase of this Colaba store as a ramp. And walking it were Alison Kanuga, Tarun Raghvan, Fleur Xavier and Carol Gracias all adding lot of masti to the spirit of the new collection. And though the show was held mainly for the press, one or two known faces from Coloba turned up to get a sneak preview. Among them were Rinaldi’s Rina Shah whose shop is just across the road, and Palkhi’s Kishan Mulchandani, who seemed quite impressed with the new collection.

Drink-up
Sophiya Haque may no longer be with Channel V, but that has notput a stop to her career. She has moved from veejaying to modelling quite seamlessly at Rina Dhaka’s fashion dash in Delhi last Monday, Sophiya stole the show from the veterans. Then she is also playing the lead in Sunhil Sippy’s Snip. The film will be released early next year. Also, Sophiya and Jules Fuller are starting a drinking club at the Offbeat Cafe. The Bowling Co. in a couple of weeks, the club will meet every Friday at the Offbeat. To give the city a taste of the drinking circles, the duo held a pre-launch session last Friday.

Among those trying the flavoured vodkas were Sumeet Chopra, Marc Robinson, Kishan Mulchandani, Svetlana Casper and Lascelles Symons to name a few. And all this for a good cause a part of the money raised will go into organising awareness campaigns.

Film Express
Friday also saw the premiere of Bhopal Express at the Tata Theatre, NCPA. The auditorium was packed, so much so that some people actually used the steps as seats. Adman Mahesh Mathai’s first featurefilm is well-shot and has some brilliant performances from Naseeruddin Shah who came to the showing with his wife Ratna Pathak. Also there was Nethra Raghuraman, who looked very fresh considering she had just came from Chandigarh in the morning.

In fact, she was glowing, looking drop-dead gorgeous in black and cream. She really beamed all night. This is really a Nethra month as the Look of the Year ’98 has already made her debut with Govind Nihalani’s Thakshak. Also at the premiere were Ashok Kurien and model Helen Brodie, who had also just come in from Chandigarh.

And finally… These celeb cook-ups that the Silly Point keeps holding every Sunday night do not fail to pull the crowds somehow. Last Sunday, it was ad-man Prahlad Kakar cooking some great ham, prawn curry and Oriental fish. And seen eating it were Lisa Ray, Helen Brodie, USIS’ Sheldon Austin and Lascelles Symons. It seems that this city can’t get enough of celeb events.
