Mumbai, June 21: Royal Caterers entered the semi-finals of the JC Maitra football Tournament when they defeated Hotel Centaur 1-0 with a second half goal.

Hashmukh Baria scored in the 56th minute a gem of a goal after former Maharashtra player, Roy Fernandes, set him up with a brilliant pass. Royal Caterers will meet Borivilians in the semi-finals.

Earlier, in a third division match, St. Joseph prevailed 3-2 over Toofan. After an intense first half, where both the teams shared four goals, the match-winner came from Clive Cowans.

Vincent Mathias, Sebi Fernandes and Clive scored for the winners while Poonam Makwana and Vinod Meria netted for the losers.

Udai top seed

Udai Singh and Mekhala Subedar are the top seeds in the men’s and women’s sections of the Rs 4 lakh Videocon Squash Classic to be held at the Otters Club in Bandra frrom June 23-29.

Internationals Akhil Behl and Paul Ferreira — a former junior national champion — are seeded second and third behind Udai in the men’s section while Mekhala is followed by Anjali Ponni as the second seed in the women’s group.

CS Pawar and Santosh More are the top two seeds in the professionals section where the winner stands to gain Rs 25,000 and the runner-up would take home Rs 15,000. The men’s and women’s champions would be richer by Rs 25,000 and Rs 15,000 respectively.
