NEW DELHI, June 22: Strong contenders Royal Rangers crossed a major hurdle when they scored a 1-0 upset victory over formidable Indian Air Force (Palam) in a Group-II match of the Delhi Soccer Association (DSA)-SAIL A’ Division Football League championship held at Dr Ambedkar Stadium here today.

Royal Rangers scored their second successive victory to collect six points from two matches while IAF (Palam) collected four points from three matches.

Starting on an offensive note, Royal Rangers dominated the proceedings against Airmen. Their mid-fielders Dio Siam Royapur Anthony initiated some good moves from both flanks to create movements in the opponents’ goal-area. The all-important goal for winners came in the 25th minute through striker Bjorn Mithdun off a grounder from top of the box.

On changing ends, IAF lads tried their best to get an equaliser but forwards Jatti and B. Das failed to capitalise the moves initiated by S. Bhatt and J. Singh.

Earlier, Delhi Students’ striker Prem Lal saved his team from defeat against Golden Stars by scoring a beautiful goal in the 20th minute to spilt one point each.

Golden Stars took the lead in the 10th minute through mid-fielder Fardeen, who struck on a long ranger.

Delhi Students collected four points from two matches while Golden Stars too have four points from two matches.
