SURAT, Jan 17: The Republican Party of India has demanded dismissal of the Gujarat government for its failure to protect minorities in the Dangs, and adequate compensation for the affected individuals and organisations in the district.
RPI national president Ramdas Athawale, who visited Deep Darshan High School, Mulchond, Patilpada and Subir during his day’s visit to Dangs, threatened that if the attacks on the Christians did not stop, his supporters would provide protection to them.
If the majority community wanted to call the shots on the basis of number, the RPI would bring all other communities together to consolidate them, Athawale said. He dared Hindu saints to convert people of different faiths, maintaining that everyone was entitled to follow their respective religions.
Alleging that attacks on Dalits and Muslims were on the rise as well in the Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled Gujarat, he demanded that migrant SC/STs from Maharashtra should also be given access to reservation in Gujarat. “Though many of them have been have been staying here for more than 25 years, they do not enjoy the benefits of reservation”, he claimed.
