AYODHYA, November 4: In a bid to avoid inviting any fresh trouble for the fledgling Kalyan Singh Government in Uttar Pradesh, the Sangh Parivar has decided to downplay its religion card.
Despite giving a call for mega-convention of kar sevaks in Ayodhya on December 14, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leaders have sent feelers to its state branches to minimise the crowd for the show.
The meeting has been convened ostensibly to chalk out a strategy for the construction of a grand temple at Ram Janmabhoomi in Ayodhya. But spectre of another December 6, 1992-type unruly mass, has made Sangh Parivar leaders develop cold feet over the issue.
Chief Minister Kalyan Singh who fulfiled his electoral promise in 1992 by “easing out” obstacles around Babri Mosque to facilitate its demolition, has reportedly vowed not to make any such move this time. Sources in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) claim that Kalyan instead of relaxing security around the make-shift shrine in Ayodhya, would instead strengthen it during the week commencing from December 6, 1997 to avoid violation of Supreme Court orders for status quo there.
Singh is learnt to be adamant on not giving any opportunity to the Centre to dismiss his government. This is why he has decided to make unprecedented security arrangements around the makeshift Ram temple in Ayodhya. He has already asked the Faizabad district administration and State Intelligence Department to keep him posted about the number of kar sevaks expected to arrive Ayodhya on December 6 and 14.
