RAIPUR, NOV 6: Over 2,000 Christian-tribals are scheduled to be reconverted to Hinduism in a massive `Gharvapsi Abhiyan’ (Home-returning ceremony) in Bhatgaon village of Sarguja district in the newly-formed state of Chhatisgarh, on Tuesday. The Abhiyan has been organised by the Akhil Bharti Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram.

According to Thakur Vijay Singh, joint convenor of the Dharam Jagaran Vibhag, they were seeking to bring back into Hinduism the tribals, who had earlier been converted to Christianity by Christian missionaries in Sarguja, Rajgarh, Jashpur, Bastar and other places of Chhatigarh, in the past.

Vijay Singh informed further that that Rajya Sabha MP Dilip Singh Judeo had written letters to Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, Home Minister L K Advani and Chattisgarh Chief Minister Ajit Jogi complaining on the increasing influence of the missionaries in Chhatisgarh. Interestingly, the Chief Minister himself is a Christian tribal.

A number of leaders of the RSS and its frontal organisations are expected to attend the function.
