Senior politburo member of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) and in-charge of foreign affairs C P Gajurel today pointed finger at the RSS and VHP for violence in the Terai plains of Nepal. He told The Indian Express that there was information that Upendra Yadav, leader of Madheshi People’s Rights Forum that is demanding autonomy for the Terai plains, had attended a convention of the RSS-VHP in Gorakhpur after which their movement turned violent. The allegation comes a day after Maoist leader and his colleague in the politburo Prachanda blamed Hindu extremists in India, without taking any names, for violence in the Terai plains of Nepal. Prachanda had said some Hindu extremists in India did not want to see monarchy abolished in Nepal.Earlier, addressing a press conference at the Press Club here, he said the Maoists were seeking India’s help to ensure that a Constituent Assembly is put in place and monarchy is banished from Nepal.“Some forces, including the Americans and the fundamentalists in India, are against the Constituent Assembly being in place and support the monarchy,” Gajurel said, adding that India has been supportive in ensuring a peaceful and democratic set-up for Nepal.“We are confident of having a Constituent Assembly and Prime Minister Koirala wants to be nominated for the Nobel peace prize for this initiative,” he said. However, when asked whether Indian Maoists too would be inspired by their Nepal counterparts and abandon arms to join the mainstream, he said, “Maoist groups in each country have their own way of achieving goals”. He quickly added that Nepal should be a model for every one.Stressing that there was no working relationship between the Maoists in Nepal and India, Gajurel said, “Violence is the last resort of any Marxist, Leninist or Maoist.” He explained the armed struggle in Nepal was started only after all other options were exhausted.“We took part in the parliamentary elections in 1992-93. But the monarchy remained and things got worse,” he said and added that the demand for a federal form government in Nepal would be raised soon. “We have not abandoned the demand for a federal structure of government. We have only suspended it temporarily,” he said.
