SEPTEMBER 12: The two matches, slated to be played today, of the Famous Grouse All-India and South Asia rugby tournament at the Bombay Gymkhana ground, were washed out due to heavy rain.
The organising committee in a meeting held in the evening decided that today’s matches have been cancelled due to the unplayable conditions. The rescheduling will be done on Monday morning taking into consideration the prevailing weather conditions.
In the meanwhile, four pumps have been pressed into service to drain out the water from the ground. This exercise has been going on throughout the day, but despite that there is ankle deep water on the playing field.
“It has been extremely unfortunate that the weather has played spoilsport throughout the tournament so far. We hope that the skies will clear up and we will be able to get back into action tomorrow,” said Aga Hussain, former India captain and a member of the organising committee of the tournament.
