November 16: A fine all round performance by Rushikesh Kamble helped St Mary’s beat CWC by 30 runs to enter the second round of the MSSA Colgate Inter-School Giles Shield (U-14) cricket tournament, at Azad Maidan today.
Kamble made 56 in his side’s total of 150, and went on to capture three wickets for 34 runs to bowl their rivals out for 120.
An unbeaten knock of 46 by left hander Prasanna Sant (46) and fine off-spin bowling by Nishit Dhulap (3-23) were the features of IES Modern English’s eight-wicket win over Cathedral & John Connon. A seven-wicket haul by medium pacer Abhishek Denzil (7-40) went in vain as St Xavier’s, Nerul, lost to CL Boys by 24 runs in a low-scoring match.

Nitesh Bhat of Manjunath Vidyalaya (Dombivli) won the boys under-8 title of the Bournvita Inter-School chess tournament, organised by the Kalina Recreation and Sports Club and the Bombay Chess Association at the Vile Parle Prabodhankar Thackeray Krida Sankul, today.
Nitesh finished as joint leader with Kashi Kishore Sah of Fr Agnel and Karan Ajinkya of Yashodham (Goregaon), but was declared the leader on the basis of a better progressive score. Sameer Thakkar crowned himself as the boys under-12 champion when he finished the final round as a clear leader with 9.5 points.
