A 117-runs opening partnerhsip between AD de Villiers (62) and Greame Smith (41) helped South Africa record a 8-wicket win over West Indies in the second Test match here today. Chasing 144 for victory on the final day, the visitors job was made easy after the solid start.

Needing 25 runs for a win with eight wickets in hand at tea, J Kallis (19 no) and J Rudolf (9 no) ensured that there was no further damage.

Earlier, strike bowler Makhaya Ntini returned the best match analysis by a South African to spur the visitors to the verge of victory.

Ntini took a career best 7/37 to help bowl out the home side for 194 in their second innings. Ramnaresh Sarwan made 107 not out. Ntini took six for 95 in the first innings, earning him match figures of 13 for 132, his second 10-wicket haul.

The only other South African to claim 13 wickets in a test was off-spinner Hugh Tayfield, who took 13/165 against Australia in Melbourne in 1952-53, and 13 /192 against England in Johannesburg in 1956-57.
