Former Prime Minister V P Singh is the latest to join the chorus for dismissal of the Mulayam Singh government in Uttar Pradesh.

V P Singh, who is considered close to the Left parties and the DMK, is reportedly persuading them not to support the Mulayam Singh government. However, both parties have expressed uneasiness regarding dismissal of the Samajwadi Party government in the state.

Giving credence to his role in the move to dismiss the Mulayam government, the former PM said: “I have never been in support of imposing Article 356 (President’s rule) in any state. But the Supreme Court order disqualifying 13 BSP MLAs has made it clear that Mulayam Singh’s Government was formed illegally. Therefore, the Governor must act and dismiss the state government without delay.”

V P Singh, who has re-launched Janmorcha, is running a bitter campaign against the Mulayam Singh Yadav together with film actor Raj Babbar as his front. He is raising the issue of displacement of farmers and is also discrediting Mulayam’s social justice agenda. The former PM has also been in touch with the Congress and Ajit Singh of the RLD.

He said that the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister should have resigned on his own after the Supreme Court disqualified the 13 BSP MLAs supporting him. “If 13 MLAs were wrong, then the rest 24 were also wrong,” the he said. V P Singh said that the Governor must take cognisance of the whole situation and dismiss the state government immediately.

The former Prime Minister also alleged that Mulayam had adopted “fair and unfair means”, including a deal with the BJP, to form the government in UP.
