AKOLA, JULY 27: The civil line police here today arrested three persons two of them alleged Shiv Sainiks for ransacking the office of local Marathi daily Deshonnati on Saturday.

The police said that two persons entered the printing press of the Deshonnati, a daily newspaper of this district town of Maharashtra’s Vidarbha region and allegedly destroyed furniture and the entire composing section of the press at about 11:45 pm on Saturday.

The civil line police here have arrested three persons Ravi Gawande (21), Bharat Bhalerao (32) and Suresh Gawande in this connection. The state police control room in Mumbai confirmed the incident and the subsequent arrest of three persons in this connection. Meanwhile, the Akola Zilla Marathi Patrakar Sangh, and Akola District Working Journalists Union have condemned the attack on the printing press of Deshonnati.

Such attacks on newspapers are becoming increasingly common in the State.
