CHANDIGARH, Jan 8: The Punjab government today sought to dispel misgivings about its financial health. Finance Minister Captain Kanwaljit Singh today said that the salaries and pensions were paid to the employees of the state government well in time.Finance Secretary Rajan Kashyap said that the government had never issued any instructions to the treasuries to stop payment of salaries and pensions. The entire amount pertaining to the same for December 1998 had been released well in advance. Terming the reports appearing in a section of the press as baseless, Kashyap said that the state had in fact remitted the first installment of the temporary loan of Rs 350 crore taken from the center.
