NEW DELHI, Oct 5: Tira Samanta of West Bengal shot down the lone record in FITA Olympic round of the National Archery Championships at the Delhi University Sports Complex today.

Samanta, with one shot, not only clinched gold in 60 metres with 319 points, but also shot down Purnima Mahato’s mark of 315 set at the Patiala nationals in 1994. Jhanu Hansda of Bihar claimed silver in 317.

Delhi’s Seema Mann claimed a gold and silver in 50m and 30m and then claimed the over-all gold in the individual championship of the Indian style, collecting 435 points.

In all, 12 medals were decided on the opening day. The men’s team championship in Indian style went to Army Sports Control Board (1611), while Uttar Pradesh (1600) and Bihar (1570) claimed silver and bronze respectively.

In the women’s section, Bihar won the gold with 1189 points. Manipur (964) and Haryana (772) finished in that order.
