Medium-pacer Darren Sammy took two wickets Friday for West Indies to restrict Australia to 71 runs for the loss of three wickets in the opening session on the second day of the first Test. Resuming on 301-4, Australia wasn’t convincing to extend their total to 372-7 at lunch at Sabina Park.

Brad Hodge added 14 runs to make 67 before being caught by wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin off Fidel Edwards and Australia was 326-5.

Twenty-four runs later, nightwatchman Mitchell Johnson was caught for 22 by Daren Powell off Sammy, who then had Brad Haddin caught by Ramdin for 11 to leave Australia on 368-7.

Andrew Symonds survived some anxious moments to be unbeaten on 18, with Brett Lee 4 not out.

Australia began the day with confidence as Hodge added three crunching boundaries. But Edwards quickly dented the momentum when he induced an edged cut and Ramdin claimed a one-handed catch.

Hodge struck eight fours and a six off 122 balls. Johnson showed good technique in his 53 balls before he chipped a catch to mid-on.

The 24-year-old Sammy, in only his fourth Test, had figures of 2-56, while Edwards had 3-78.
