Mumbai, November 18: Sandip Jangra from Jindal Club was the lone seeded casualty on the opening day of the 57th CCI Western India Open squash tournament 2000, sponsored by the Cricket Club of India at their Squash Courts on Saturday.

Fourth-seed Sandip was upset by his clubmate unseeded Rajiv Mishra 6-9, 9-6, 10-8, 9-6 in the boy’s under-15 category.

Telecom Kabaddi
The 16th All-India Telecom kabaddi tournament 2000-01 will be held at the Bhavans’ College Gymkhana, Jai Prakash Road, Andheri (W) from November 20 to 24 under the auspices of Regional Sports & Cultural Board, MTNL, Mumbai.

18 men’s and four women’s teams from 18 States would take part in this competition. Arjuna awardee Maya Meher Akre will inaugurate the event on Nov 20 at 10 a.m.

Guruprit leads
Top seed Guruprit Maras has emerged as the sole leader in the under-14 category of the Rochess 2000 State children chess tournament at the end of the seventh round on Saturday. He has six points.

Following Guruprit at the second spot are Sachin Kamat, Pratik Shrivas and Aditya Vora with 5.5 points each.

Rohit Bhat is leading in the under-12 category with 6.5 points at the end of the seventh round.

Ghatkopar YMCA enters semis
Ghatkopar YMCA entered the semi-finals of the mini boy’s category of the NNH Open basketball tournament, being played at the Bachoo Khan municipal ground on Saturday.

RCF supreme
Rahtriya Chemicals and Fertilisers (RCF) won the Xth Mumbai city district volleyball championship. They beat MbPT in the final in threes sets 25-23, 25-19, 25-16. Ganesh Kale and Sanjay Naik played attacking game for the winners with passer of Premkumar Shiju, Lonnappan and Dinesh More.

Manoharan, former International player and National Volleyball coach was chief guest for the prize distribution.
