SC notice for states, UTs on safe education

The Supreme Court directed notices to be issued to all states and Union Territories on a PIL seeking to ensure safe education to children across the country.

The petitioner, Avinash Mehrotra, asked the apex court to issue directions to all state governments and Union Territories to take appropriate measures to prevent fire accidents and other mishaps in schools. The petitioner contended to the bench of Justice N. Santosh Hegde and Justice S.B. Sinha that a majority of private schools in districts and towns are located in congested lanes.
