SC notice to Prabhakar Rao in urea scam

NEW DELHI, JULY 11: The Supreme Court today issued notice to P V Prabhakar Rao, son of former prime minister P V Narasimha Rao, on a petition filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).The plea challenged the anticipatory bail granted to him by the Andhra Pradesh High Court in connection with the Rs 130 crore urea scam.

A three-judge bench comprising Justice M K Mukherjee, Justice S P Kurdurkar and Justice K T Thomas directed the notices to be returnable on August 1.Earlier, counsel for the Enforcement Directorate told the court that the urea scam had international ramifications.It said since the probe was still going on in several countries abroad, bail should not be granted to Prabhakar Rao, who is one of the accused in the case.
