The Supreme Court on Wednesday declined to grant bail to Independent MLA from Uttar Pradesh Akhilesh Kumar Singh, who is facing trial in a murder case. However, the Bench — presided by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan — granted him the liberty to approach the Sessions court seeking bail, in case the trial in the case was not completed within three months. Singh, MLA from Rae Barelly, and three others are facing trial in the murder of local Congress Seva Dal leader Rakesh Pandey on July 3, 2002.
