Could Union Minister Sharad Pawar have become president of BCCI had its president Jagmohan Dalmiya not given his individual vote followed by a casting vote as chairman of the Board’s Annaul General Meeting in favour of his nominee Ranbir Singh Mahendra?

The question that could the board president, presiding as chairman of the AGM in which elections took place, have cast two votes, was hotly debated in the apex court today during arguments over BCCI’s appeal challenging a Madras High Court order on the board election controversy.

A bench comprising Justice N Santosh Hegde and Justice SB Sinha reserved its verdict on the appeal but observed that it would look into the board rules in entirety before deciding the question whether the chairman could have two votes.
