Congress legislator Rajesh Juvantha from Purola in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand will serve his remaining jail sentence of four-and-half-months in a case related with poll violence during the 2002 Panchayat elections. Juvantha said on Wednesday that his Special Leave Petition, along with two other petitions, were rejected by the apex courtJuvantha was convicted by Munsif Magistrate of Purola and given six months imprisonment for allegedly tearing ballot papers during Panchayat elections. He was in jail for one-and-half-months and was later bailed out. In the Assembly polls held in February, he was elected from Purola reserved constituency. “I had pleaded for quashing of my remaining sentence, but the SC upheld the sentence. I will surrender after getting the court order,” he said.
