CHANDIGARH, Oct 30: Scientists and technologists need to interact closely with the user community and convert their knowledge and expertise into useful and marketable products and services.
This was stated by Secretary, Department of Science and Technology, V. S. Ramamurthy, during his address on the occasion of the Foundation Day of Central Scientific Instruments Organisation, here today.
He said that while the country can boast of a large number of research institutions and a vast pool of trained manpower, the transfer of knowledge and expertise available in the laboratories to the market place has remained a weak area and therefore needs to be strengthened.
He added that products and services should be affordable by the targeted population because the common man judges the impact of new developments in terms of affordability. Former secretary to the Government of India and member, Council and Governing Body, CSIR, V K Gaur presided over the function. CSIO Director, S Mohan and former directors Harsh Vardhan and K R Sarma were also present.
