ZIRAKPUR, Feb 25: The S.A.S. Nagar Sub-Divisional Magistrate O.P. Popli today ordered a probe into the alleged registration of false cases against two local chemists by the area police, thereby leading to the end of the three-day long strike of the chemists of the area.
The inquiry will be conducted by drug inspector M.L. Gupta and the report is expected by the next week.
Meanwhile, the chemists of the township closed their establishments for five hours starting from 8 a.m. for the second day today. The shops were opened at 1 p.m. following the intervention of the SDM, who assured a delegation of shopkeepers that justice would be done to them. Accompanied by Superintendent of Police B.S. Randhawa, the SDM also assured that the case would be withdrawn if the arrested persons were found innocent.
Two persons were arrested by the Sohana police on February 19 from Zirakpur and allegedly a large quantity of banned drugs were recovered from their possession.
