Jan 28: Security has been tightened near four churches in Peth taluka in Nashik district, where a church was vandalised in October last year, Chief Minister Manohar Joshi said today. Talking to mediapersons here, Joshi said Christians in the state need not feel insecure.

Expressing concern at the stone-throwing incident at the house of city Bharatiya Janata Party President Vijay Sane, who was protesting against bootleggers at Waghadi in Panchavati, Joshi said the police would be asked to immediately swoop on liquor dens.

To a query on the recent geological development at Gondegaon village in Peth taluka, where massive cracks have developed and a river stream had vanished, he said experts from Nanded and Pune have been asked to undertake a detailed study of the phenomenon and submit their findings to the district collector by February 8.

Experts have, however, ruled out the possibility of earthquakes in the region, he added.
