MUMBAI, SEPT 28: Select scrips led by Reliance, Gujarat A Cement, Bajaj Auto, Larsen and others rallied in an otherwise dull trading on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on Tuesday. The fresh buying support was confined mainly to transfer of positions by operators coupled with selective purchases from foreign funds.Sensex (BSE sensitive index) opened lower at 4701.19 and moved between 4738.81 and 4656.44 before closing at 4733.42 with a small gain of 17.75 points compared to the yesterday's close of 4715.67. The BSE-100 index, however, eased by 7.02 points to 2212.39 from previous close of 2219.41.Apart from Reliance, cement shares also attracted fresh buying support. GACL rallied smartly by Rs 30 to Rs 508 after the company announced that it would consider a bonus issue of shares on October 13. Zee Telefims, however, dropped by Rs 343.10 to Rs 4775 on profit-taking.Operators preferred to shift their positions to the BSE from the National Stock Exchange (NSE) which witnessed squaring up in view of thelast day of the current settlement. Reliance which spurted by Rs 11.75 to Rs 227.50 also witnessed a huge volume of 1.6 crore shares. Escorts and Ballarpur hit the upper circuit-breaker after exhausting the eight per cent limit.The total volume of business was sharply down at Rs 2746.41 crore as against Rs 3087.93 crore posted yesterday. Reliance was most active with a turnover of Rs 360.31 crore followed by Zee Telefilms of Rs 264.45 crore, Ranbaxy of Rs 202.85 crore, Satyam Computer of Rs 191.12 crore and Pentafour of Rs 134.38 crore. Pentafour gained by Rs 8.90 to Rs 601.90, Bajaj Auto by Rs 23 to Rs 460, Infosys by Rs 81.15 to Rs 7105, Larsen by Rs 10.50 to Rs 358.75, SBI by Rs 4 to Rs 210.50, TELCO by Rs 3.85 to Rs 269.45 and TISCO by Rs 1.60 to Rs 139. Ranbaxy, Satyam Computer, Hindustan Lever, ITC, Mahindra and Mahindra and NIIT remained weak.
