CHANDIGARH, Nov 25: Adverse sex ratio in Punjab and its rather dismal record of violence against women will be the focus of discussion during a national seminar on `Gender relations in the undivided Punjab’ to be held on Punjab University campus from November 27 to 29.

The seminar aims to address these issues in light of the fact that Punjab is economically the most developed state (highest per capita income) in India. Participants will talk about diverse manifestations of gender relations right from Mahabharata to contemporary times.

Bibi Jagir Kaur, state minister for social security and development of women and children will inaugurate the seminar. Keynote address will be delivered by Prof R. R. Verma, vice-chancellor, Lucknow University. The seminar is being organised by Institute of Punjab Studies, Chandigarh, in collaboration with the Centre for Women’s Studies of PU.
