The Shiv Sena on Tuesday charged the Maharashtra Government with appeasement of migrants to Mumbai for votes, and demanded steps to curb the influx of North Indians “who have ruined the city”.

“We know that any citizen can go to any corner of this country and settle down, but does that mean some outsider would barge into our house and make it dirty?” said Leader of Opposition Ramdas Kadam in the state Assembly on Tuesday. “These people have ruined Mumbai. Kadam claimed that 24 per cent of the total migrants who had entered the city over the past five years were from Uttar Pradesh, followed by nine per cent from Gujarat, seven per cent from Karnataka, four per cent from Rajasthan and 3.5 per cent from Bihar.
