
AURANGABAD, February 5: Most of the eight Lok Sabha constituencies in the district are poised for direct fights between the Shiv Sena and the Congress, with just 73 candidates filing their nomination by Wednesday evening. The average number of candidates in the eight constituencies is eight each.
In all ten candidates have filed their papers from Aurangabad, prominent among them being Pradeep Jaiswal of the Shiv Sena and Ramkrishna Patil of the Congress.In a dramatic turn proposed Janata Dal candidate, Nihal Ahmed, did not file papers favouring instead a Congress corporator, Mustaq Ahmed, in his place.
In Nanded, sitting MP, Gangadharrao Konturkar, who was denied a Congress ticket, has preferred not to rebel but will however continue to actively oppose party nominee, Bhaskarrao Patil Khatgaonkar. Number of candidates in Jalna rose to 10, Hingoli 5, Nanded 16, Parbhani 9, Latur 10 and Beed 14 on the last day.
