Profit-booking in select new economy technology and telecom stocks pulled down the stock market on Monday. While gains continued in metal and banking stocks, profit-booking was seen in the mid-cap stocks.

Moving in an intra-day range of 50 points, the 30-share BSE Sensitive index (Sensex) eventually ended with a loss of 15.33 points at 5,545.82. The benchmark index touched its 4-month high of 5,585.57 in the intra-day trades today. The NSE S&P CNX Nifty index shed 4.85 points to end at 1,728.80.
