Unable to bridge the differences between the different stakeholders, the Centre has decided to seek more time from the Supreme Court on Wednesday to file its affidavit in the Sethusamudram case.

A Government source told The Indian Express on Tuesday that efforts to find a common ground between the opposing views of the Culture and Shipping Ministries remained inconclusive and there was no option but to seek more time from the apex court. “That (seeking more time) seems to be the only possibility left,” the source said.

The Supreme Court is hearing a bunch of petitions seeking the cancellation of the Sethusamudram Shipping Canal Project, mainly on the ground that it will damage the Adam’s Bridge in the Palk Straits between India and Sri Lanka.
