PUNE, Dec 6: Over 7 lakh children upto the age of five in Pune district were administered polio drops in the country-wide immunisation programme against polio today.

The drive was reported to be 99 per cent successful in Pune district as 5,08,519 children were administered polio drops at 3,030 booths set up by the Pune Zilla Parishad.

The PMC had set up 850 booths were over 2.33 lakh children were covered. The second phase of the programme will be held on January 17. Social groups and non-government organisations also participated in the drive.

The Rotary club of Khadki covering the areas of Khadki Cantonment Board Dapodi, Bopodi and at Wakdewadi carried out the pulse polio programme with the active participation of the volunteers of the Queen Mary’s Technical Institute (QMTI) for Disabled Soldiers. The club fielded 40 booths manned by handicapped soldiers and their dependents.

Mobile vans not only covered the migratory building construction workers, roadside establishments of statue makers, basket weavers and furniture makers but also went to remote `bastis’ and motivated the parents, according to a statement issued by Col A K Moghe, (retd), executive director, QMTI. Over 15,000 doses were administered.
