Boycotting Judge Arun Madan’s court, lawyers of the Rajasthan High Court Bar Council today demanded that no work be allotted to Madan till he is cleared of all sexual misconduct and corruption charges levelled against him. The demand was made in a written memorandum presented before a three-judge committee probing the charges against Madan.President of the Council Manish Bhandari said: ‘‘We have decided that no lawyer will appear before Justice Madan and have asked that no work be allotted to him. As of today, he is sitting in his chambers and adjourning matters.’’The Council’s decision was conveyed to the committee, which concluded its second round of inquiries in Jaipur yesterday. During the four-day probe, women’s organisations also asked the panel to ‘‘take action if the credibility of the judiciary is to be restored’’.Earlier, the committee recorded statements of 30 people in Jodhpur. The committee was set up after Sunita Malviya, a resident of Jodhpur, lodged a complaint saying Madan had made a sexual proposition to her through a Deputy Registrar of the high HC, Govind Kalwani. The complaint said Kalwani had said the judge would in turn help her get out of a criminal case booked against her.The Mahila Atyachar Virodhi Andolan said the case should be seen as a ‘‘disturbing pattern in the judiciary’’ and a larger probe be conducted into the functioning of the system. Meanwhile, lawyers have also demanded Madan be transferred out of Rajasthan even if he is cleared of all charges.
