CHANDIGARH, Dec 7: The 44th National School Games in the discipline of volleyball in the under-19, under-17 and under-14 categories for boys and girls, is slated to be held from January 15 to 20, at Burdwan under the aegis of Directorate of School Education of West Bengal. Earlier, the meet was scheduled to be held from January 25 to 30.

According to BD Gandhi, Secretary General, School Games Federation of India (SGFI), the dates were re-scheduled due to clash with the junior national volleyball meet.

Meanwhile, the inaugural edition of the National School carrom championship will be held at Akola from January 12 to 15, under the aegis of Directorate of Sports and Youth Services, Maharashtra.

The competition will be held in team and individual events in the under-19 group for boys and girls.

Kho-kho trials
Trials to select Chandigarh kho-kho teams in boys and girls section for the forthcoming 34th senior national kh-kho championship to be held at Indore from December 26 to 30, will be held on December 10 at 2.30 p.m., at SGGS-35.

ICC enter final
Industrial Cricket Club entered the final of the Eight-a-side cricket tournament beating Dragon Cricket Club by 22 runs in the semifinal here today.

Scores: ICC: 102 for 3 (Jatinder 31, Rajesh Patha 22, Vikram 16; Nitin 2-18) beat Dragon: 80 (Nitin 32 n.o., Rishpal Singh 3-15, Vikram 2-25).

10 overs cricket
The first ICC Ten-overs-a-side cricket tournament will be played from December 17 to 19 at the Sector 40 Mandi ground. Entries close with Jatinder Kumar, Kushboo Sports, Booth No. 194, Rehri Market, Sector 15 on December 13.

Rinki is best athlete
Rinki Sharma, a student of class XI was declared the best athlete in the annual athletic meet of Tagore Niketan College for Girls-27, held today at Sector 7 Sports Complex.

More than 100 students took part in the meet.

Raj Kumar elected
Raj Kumar and Hem Raj Goel were unanimously elected president and secretary of the Group C and D employees union of the Sports Authority of India, Northern Region, Chandigarh, in the general body meeting of the unit, held today. Other office bearers elected are: Asha Jha and Neeraj Kumar (vice-presidents), Desh Raj (secretary), treasurer (Rakesh Monga) and advisor (Ramesh Kumar).

PU softball meet
More than eight colleges are expected to take part in the Punjab University Inter-College women’s softball championship which will commence tomorrow at PU Campus.

Among the local colleges, MCM DAV College-36 and Government College for Girls-11, are strong contenders for the title. PU Campus also have a good team, which might up set the apple cart of the best in the fray.

Others participating colleges includes – Arya College, Ludhiana, Khalsa College, Ludhiana and Ramgarhia Girls College, Ludhiana.

The matches will be played on knock out-cum-league basis.
