The great love affair between supermodel Claudia Schiffer and superstar magician David Copperfield is a sham, if the French magazine Paris Match is to be believed. The magazine has claimed to have obtained a contract drawn up between the couple designed to create the impression that they were lovers in order to forward Copperfield's career in Europe. When their high publicity affair began three years ago, Copperfield, a superstar in America, a multi-millionaire who could fill theatres across America with 5,000 seats three times a day, almost 320 days a year (at $30 a ticket), was virtually unknown in Britain and most of Europe. The romance between the dark and slightly sinister magician and the blonde supermodel Snow White certainly made headlines - ``Love is magic'' said Today, ``How did Copperfield cop a girl like Claudia. It's magic'' proclaimed the Daily Mirror, while News of the World explained ``How superstar magician put love spell on catwalk queen''. However, Schiffer, while admitting that she was paid to appear at the event where she first met Copperfield, has angrily denied that their relationship was a cynical sham.
