Never mind Nawaz Sharif’s stunning performance at the hustings, the former Pakistan premier’s hair transplant, his love for food and his newly acquired spoken English skills continue to be the talk of the town.

Almost all media profiles of the PML-N chief mention his “new hairdo” that he acquired when he was in exile.

“Dyeing your hair is bad enough, but attaching hair to your head? Why, it shows nothing but that one has a very low opinion of oneself,” wrote columnist Kamran Shafi shortly after he noticed Sharif’s new hairline.

While Sharif’s new hairdo became a talking point for many, this inexplicable self-indulgence by both him and his brother Shahbaz was even mentioned on a website for the balding.

Following the stunning performance of Sharif’s PML-N party in the February 18 polls, the Khaleej Times said in a profile of the leader:

“The formerly-balding Sharif returned to Pakistan in late 2007 — with a full head of hair after a transplant”.

Shafi’s piece even gave the insider’s take on the hair transplant. “What in heaven’s name prompted the two to have hair transplants when they were variously, and affectionately, and very widely known as Do Ganjay (“The Two Baldies”) and other such quite endearingly cute terms?”

But Sharif’s image makeover is not limited to his new hairdo.

He is also said to have polished his English while in exile. Many say he managed to kick off his “Punjabi English”, so the new-look Sharif not just looks smart, but also speaks smart.
