MUMBAI, July 24: President Shankar Dayal Sharma today approved the appointment of Justice S D Gundewar to the one man commission of inquiry to probe into the desecration of Ambedkar’s statue and subsequent police firing, in which 10 persons were killed.
As per the Indian constitution, approval of the President is required before a sitting judge can be appointed under the Commission of Inquiry Act, a senior official said.
“Since the approval has come today, the actual probe will begin from Monday, as by that time, necessary staff will be provided to the judge,” a senior official told The Indian Express.
