MUMBAI, May 22: Sheel Desai clinched a spot in the boys under-18 State Junior Ranking tennis tournament semi-finals at the Bhushan Tennis Academy today with a prolonged three-set victory over Vinay Mony.

Top-seeded Desai won 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 to quell the unseeded Mony’s challenge. Serving well and playing effectively at the net, Mony tired and faded away as the match wore on.

Desai, wresting the initiative, confined Mony to the baseline. It did much to lure the unseeded player into errors which enabled the top seed rally to victory.
