Sher-e-Jalandhar got the better of Chennai Veerans 2-1 at the end of the first leg of the Professional Hockey League here today. The win enabled them tally 14 points and stay on top of the league table. Jarnil Singh and Gagan Ajit Singh scored for the Shers. Somanna netted a controversial consolation goal in the 61st minute for the Chennai team. With this loss Veerans have seven points from six matches.

In another match, Orissa Steelers chalked out a 2-0 win over Maratha Warriors to top the pool along with the Shers, with Damandeep Singh scoring a brace. The League will now move to Chandigarh for the second leg starting February 11.
