LUCKNOW, December 20: Members of the Shia sect here are gearing up for another showdown with the State Government over their long-pending demand for the lifting of the 20-year-old ban on the Azadari procession.

The Azadari Liberation Force has asked its members to be prepared to take out the procession on January 22. Shia leaders have called a crucial meeting in this connection on January 1, the first day of Ramzan.

Speaking to The Indian Express, Shamil Shamsi, president of the Liberation Force, said: “We will decide on our future course of action at the meeting. This time we are not going to do away with the procession”.
