MUMBAI, January 3: Shiv Kapoor of Delhi emerged victorious in the under-17 group of the Western India Juniors & Sub-Juniors Golf tournament sponsored by the HDFC Bank at the Bombay Presidency Golf Club today. Shiv fired the day’s best round of 75 today to add to his previous scores of 73, 76 and 76 to finish with a total of 300.

He was followed by Bikram Singh (305) and Suleman Ali (306) to make it an all Delhi sweep.“I always knew I could make it. I played my natural game and luckily for me, it was not their (Bikram and Suleman) best day,” said the first-year Commerce student of Model School.Shiv began well firing seven pars but faltered with a bogey on the eighth followed by a double bogey on the ninth hole which saw him finish the forward round with a card of 38.

Bikram however started well firing two birdies on the first and fourth hole. But then he faltered on numerous occasions dropping shots on the fifth, sixth and ninth hole. He double-bogeyed on the seventh hole but managed to finish the first-half with a card of 38, same as Shiv.

Suleman however had a better round of 35. He fired two birdies on the second and fourth hole but dropped shots on the third and ninth. This saw Suleman climb to the second spot, relegating Bikram to the third.

On the tenth hole Shiv dropped a shot while Suleman shot a par, decreasing the margin by one-stroke. But on the 11th, Suleman double-bogeyed while Shiv fired a par and widened the gap again to three strokes. However Shiv maintained his cool to par on the 16th, 17th and 19th holes. Bikram too steadied his game committing no mistakes after dropping a shot on the 14th hole. The equations changed on the 17th hole when Suleman Ali double bogeyed. On the final hole, Suleman bogeyed again, losing the second spot to Bikram.

Bikram could have finished with a better position had it not been his poor round of 81 which saw him trail Shiv by four strokes.

Ashok Kumar of Delhi played a round of 80 today, his worst in the tournament. But that did not prevent him from emerging supreme in the under-14 division. Jagbir Singh Gill (321) of Jalandhar came second with Vignesh Ranga Rao (329) of Chennai finishing third. In the under-12 group, Calcutta lad Ranjit Singh finished first with a total of 330.
