CHANDIGARH, Sept 1: The UT Administration finally gave their nod to the Shivalik Public School-41 team for participation in the Subroto Mukerjee Cup football tournament, which got underway today at New Delhi. The team left for New Delhi yesterday in the evening as the decision was taken at the eleventh hour by the Director Public Instructor (DPI) Schools. The decision could only be taken after the Chandigarh Olympic Association (COA) submitted its report to the Chandigarh Administration yesterday afternoon. Since there were two teams who were claiming to be the winner of the State Inter-School meet, the UT Administration had asked the COA to intervene and resolve the issue.``After going through the detail of the report given by Rajan Kashyap, president COA, it was decided to give a clean chit to the Shivalik School team to participate in the meet (Subroto Cup), '' disclosed DS Saroya, DPI Schools.Based on the facts provided by the administration, Rajan Kashyap, president, COA, submitted a three page report to the UT Administration. The COA president also invited members of both the factions of the Chandigarh Football Association (CFA) who had conducted competitions, for their versions before submitting its report. His report ticked Shivalik Public School as the qualifiers from the city.Whereas, the other team - Sanjay Public School, had also staked their claims, they participated in a meet in which ten clubs and 11 schools took part. Now, according to the rules of the Subroto Mukerjee Cup organising committee, only the winner of the State Inter-School meet can only take part in the tournament and the tournament should not have clubs participating in it.North Zone TTThe North Zone table tennis tournament will be held here from September 17 at the Sector 23 Indoor Table Tennis Hall. In the three-day meet competition will be organised in cadet, sub-junior, junior and senior categories in singles event. Mixed doubles event will also be held.Apart from Chandigarh, paddlers from Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh are also expected to participate in the meet. Entries close on September 14, with Rajiv Kaushal (table tennis coach), HNo-228, Sector 23-A.
