KHARAR, JAN 31: The Kharar Bus Stand Chowk Dukaanan Bachao Committee has demanded a high-level probe into the declaration of concrete structures situated at local bus stand chowk as temporary structures by the Punjab Public Works Department.

In a memorandum to Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, the committee has said that in a letter, issued by the PWD to the state government, for issuance of the notification, it had been certified that the temporary structures fell within the proposed land to be acquired for the purpose, where as in reality concrete structures, some of them multi-storeyed, were situated there.

It is alleged that the department was taking such steps on the behest of some influential landlords.Committee president and secretary Satish Chander Gupta and Saminder Singh, respectively, said that the CM had been urged to shelve the proposed construction of roundabout chowk and install traffic lights instead. The step would save shopkeepers of the area from being displaced, the committee said.
