MCA to host inter-cities cricket tournament

MUMBAI, December 26: The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) will host a unique prize money One-Day tournament between leading metropolitan cities of India in May next.

In the major schedule for the upcoming year, MCA also finalised a reciprocal arrangement of yearly exchange of under-19 team’s tours with Sri Lanka’s Gampha District.

MCA joint secretary Professor Ratnakar Shetty said here today that the Board of Control for Cricket in India has given its consent for both the ventures. The Inter-Metropolitan City Tournament will be a day-night affair and initially it will be a triangular or quandrangular contest.

MCA will first play host to Gampha District team in 1998 and next year Mumbai Junior Team will visit the district which is 15 kms away from Colombo. MCA has prospered through the Rs 14 lakh sponsorship by a German sports footwear multinational since last two years.

Now it will have technical assistance from the same company which will be sending its Reebok master trainer Fred Hoffman from France to conduct a special fitness training workshop at the Wankhede Stadium on Janauary 11 and 12.

Hockey camp from today

The Bombay Republicans Sports Club will be orgainising the fourth BPCL-sponsored Hockey Coaching Camp at the Mahindra Stadium from December 27 to January 8. Interested players should report at the venue at 7.00 a.m.
