Top billing for Megha, Isha, Lisa
Local girls Megha Vakharia, Isha Lakhani and Lisa Pereira, past members of the Indian team in the World U-16, are the top three seeds in the under-16 section of the Bombay Gymkhana state-ranking junior open tennis tournament, from December 6-11. The tournament, organised under the Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association banner, has received 400 entries.

Tennis scholarships worth Rs 35,100 are to be awarded to players.

West Zone u-22 cricket from Dec 8
The West Zone cricket associatons have decided to revive the under-22 tournament in the zone from this season. The Mumbai Cricket Association will be playing host to the event sponsored by Hindustan Inks & Resins Limited, Vapi. It will be played on a knock-out basis and the matches would be a three-day affair.

Former Test wicket-keeper Kiran More, while addressing newsmen hoped that this tournament will help in providing a good bench strength to the respective teams. The u-22 tournament played as inter-zonal was suspended by the BCCI after the 1984-85. In fact, More owes his successful foray into the international arena to the aforsesaid event.

The winners and runners-up will be awarded cash prizes o Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively. Besides, attractice cash awards for individual excellence are also at stake. The winning team will be awarded the Mamasaheb Ghorpade trophy alongwith the sponsors trophy.

The schedule: Dec 8-10: Mumbai vs Saurashtraat Brabourne Stadium (I), Dec 14-16: Baroda vs winners of I (II) at MiG Club, Bandra; Gujarat vs Maharashtra at Parsee Gymkhana (III); Dec 18-20: Final (Winner of II vs Winner of III) at Wankhede Stadium.
