Mike Tyson gets licence back
Former world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson’s licence to box was reinstated here on Monday, more than a year after he was banished from the sport for biting Evander Holyfield’s ears. The Nevada State Athletic Commission, the sport’s governing body in this state, voted 4-1 to reinstate Tyson’s license after hearing testimony from the fighter himself, his wife, a panel of psychiatrists and sports legends Muhammad Ali and `Magic’ Johnson.

Test drawn
Australian skipper Mark Taylor missed Graham Gooch’s world record of most runs in a Test match as the second Test between Australia and Pakistan ended in a draw in Peshawar on Monday. Australia, who have not won a series on the Pakistan soil for the last 39 years, kept their 1-0 lead intact after a big innings and 99-run win in the first Test. The third and final Test begins at Karachi on Thursday.

Panja excels
As he walked onto the court for his first-round match in the GVK Satellite Tennis Tournament in Hyderabad, there was a discernible spring in Saurav Panja’s step. It seemed strange, for his opponent was the very man who had ensured that the Indian didn’t go beyond the second round in the Mumbai leg. But with a fine exhibition of serve and volley game in the next hour, Panja provided the answer, the 6-4, 6-1 straight-set win erasing all the sour memories of his three-set loss in Mumbai.

ICC’s help
International Cricket Council president Jagmohan Dalmiya said that the world cricket body was awaiting a word from Board of Control for Cricket in India before deciding on the role they should play in helping off-spinner Harbhajan Singh in correcting his bowling action. It may be recalled that Harbhajan Singh was left out of the squad for Wills International Cup in Dhakka after the ICC, in a letter to BCCI.
