New Zealand square series
After batting New Zealand out of the game in two successive matches, India’s top three batsmen fell in a heap chasing an attainable target as the hosts lost the fourth one-day international cricket tie by 48 runs today to let their rivals square the series two-all with a match to go. After restricting New Zealand to 236 for nine on putting them in on a track which showed early life and then grew slower, India never recovered from early jolts to be bowled out for 188 in 45.3 overs to dash hopes of wrapping up the series within the distance at Nehru Stadium.
Lewis wins
Briton Lennox Lewis won the undisputed heavyweight championship of the world with a unanimous decision over American Evander Holyfield in a rematch that was by far more exciting than their first fight last March. Lewis, 34, was simply too big and too strong for the 37-year-old Holyfield. There were no knockdowns. Lewis was cut on a head butt in the fifth round, and time was called for the ringside doctor to examine the briton.
Jeev shines
Top Indian pro Jeev Milkha Singh fired two under par 70 with two birdies and 16 pars to finish on a respectable 17th position in golf tournanment in Taipie, today. Jeev was a model of consistency as he hit 18 greens and made two birdies to return to good form and pocket Rs 8 lakh for his effort. The other Indian in the fray Amandeep Johl scored a 73 to finish 55th in the strong field of Asian, European and Australian Tour players. Defending champion Tiger woods of the United States, looking for his fifth tournament victory in a row, finished on a four-round aggregate of seven under for the sixth place, after carding a battling 71.

The battleline for semifinals of the 16th Indianoil Surjit hockey tournament has been drawn on the expected lines with defending champions Border Security Force and runners-up Punjab and Sind Bank (PSB), Delhi topping their respective groups at the conclusion of league fixtures at the Olympian Surjit Stadium, yesterday.
