Gill excels for Collage
Deadly bowling by Sanjay Gill (6 for 17) and excellent display by Sanjay Verma (23 and 3 for 4) enabled Collage Group beat Gemini Club by 120 runs in the inaugural match of JD Textile tournament at Yamuna Sports Complex. Electing to bat, Collage Group were in trouble at 25 for four. Anil Sinha and Sanjay Verma then added 61 runs for the fifth wicket. Medium pacers Amit Bhandari (3 for 16) and Rakesh Raman Jha (2 for 18) were the main wicket-takers.

Gemini Club batsmen could not face the Collage bowlers for long and were bundled out for a paltry 44 in 18.5 overs. Except for Tara Chand (10), no other player reached double figure.

Manish shines
Excellent batting by Manish (54) helped Saviour Convent (Paschim Vihar), drub Guru Harkishan Public School by six wickets in Radha Kishan interschool tournament. In another match, Quetta DAV (Nizamuddin) defeated Salwan Boys by one wicket. Sarvodaya Vidyalaya (Jheel) entered the quarter final on better average.

Taekwon-do meet
The inaugural Haneefa memorial invitational taekwon-do championships, organised by Smash Taekwon-do Club, will be held at Talkatora Stadium on October 8 and 9. Entries close on October 7 at the association’s head office at Bhajanpura or at the club’s office at Saket.

Super Soccer Academy
Modern School (Vasant Vihar) has become the latest school to join the Super Soccer Academy of England. Under the agreement, the Academy will supply free training to the school team and train the school teachers in the latest soccer techniques and teaching methodologies.

The Super Soccer Academy will provide coaching sessions for children from classes 5 to 12 on Wednesday afternoons, Saturdays and Sundays. The Sunday sessions will be followed by free training for the school’s senior team.

Delhi, Punjab win
Delhi humbled Haryana by 51 runs in the North Zone inter-state senior women’s cricket league championship. In another match, Punjab beat Chandigarh (UT) by 10 wickets. Brief scores: Delhi 144 in 40 overs (Ruchika 27, Rakhi 22, Janki 2 for 29) bt Haryana: 93 all out (Sunaina 22). Punjab: 67 for no loss (Gulshan 25 n.o, Balbil 29) bt Chandigarh: 65 all out (Gulshan 2 for 14, Rajvinder 2 for 13, Anjum 2 for &).

Coaches’ clinic
A volleyball coaches clinic will be held at Sarvodaya Vidyalaya, Dhaka on October 22. All the coaches of Delhi will be invited. Delhi volleyball championship (jr boys and girls) is going to be held at Sarvodaya Vidyalaya, Dhaka from October 22 to 25. Teams (boys and girls) to represent Delhi in the Jr National volleyball championship will be selected during this tournament. Players born on or after 1.1.1981 can participate in this championship. Entries close on October 17 with Randhir Singh at Sports Complex, Sarvodaya Vidalaya (Dhaka).

Tashirpur triumph
Tashirpur Sports Complex defeated Zakir Hussain College 4-1 via tie-breaker to enter the quarterfinal of seventh Rajiv Gandhi memoral football tournament at Ghaziabad. In the tie-breaker, Himmat Singh, Shyam Thapa, Hukam Thapa and Suresh scored for the winners while Neeraj scored the lone goal for the losers. Tahirpur team’s goalkeeper R S Negi saved a penalty taken by Zakir Hussain College in regulation period.
