Jaideep among four city gymnasts in State jr. squad n PUNE’S Jaideep Sharma along with three citymates — Ajay Singh, Amuthai Singh and Tinku Singh have been selected to represent Maharashtra for the forthcoming junior national gymnastic championship to be held at Calcutta.

The 14-member team (boys and girls) announced by the Maharashtra Amatuer Gymnastic Association (MAGA) here today, has been formed on the basis of individual performance during the State selection trail held at Aurangabad from December 23-27.

Boys: Jaideep Sharma, Ajay Singh, Amuthai Singh (all Pune), Rohan Deshpande (Aurangabad), Tushar Chodhary (mumbai), Tinku Singh (Pune), Siddharth Sawant (Thane). Coach: Deepak Shirke. Manager: Arjun Bharat.
Girls: Priya Barve (Mumbai), Puja Palki, Mansi Gondhankar, Dipali Pande (all Pune), Sharvari Kulkarni (Aurangabad), Anuradha Bhide, Neha Gohad (both Pune). Coach: Ramkrishna Lokhande.

PDFA league from Dec 24
A total of 18 teams for the II division and 32 teams for the III division will fight it out for the top honours in the Poona District Football Association’s league commencing from December 24.

The first phase matches to be played upto January 16, 1999 will be held at two venuesGhorpuri Military and University of Poona grounds. The III division teams have been split into five groups, from which the winners and runners up of each group will qualify for the second phase. While, the II division is been clubbed into two.

The tournament kicks off at the University of Poona ground at 2.30 p.m. on December 24.

Darshan scalps 5 wickets
Darshan Balandote’s rich haul of five for seven wickets powered Muktangan High School to a comfortable 77-runs victory over New English School, Ramanbaug in the Makrand Naik Memorial Trust organised inter-school U-14 cricket tournament.

Sardar Dastur: 68 in 23 overs (Rohan Kr 15, Saurabh Si 3/5, Sarang Dungule 3/15, Nikhil Pawle 2/6) lost to SSPMS (Day) `A’: 72 for 2 in 12.3 overs (Prashant Naik 40).

SSPMS (Day) `B’: 117 in 25 overs (Amit Kushte 15, Prashant Dhude 15, Swapnil Jadhav 14, Yogesh Takwale 2/15, Naval Supekar 2/18) bt Bhave Highschool: 113 in 24.3 overs (Naval Supekar 35, Mangesh Indalkar 17, Vikas Sharma 3/9, Sunny Pande 2/10).

JN Petit: 175 for 7 in 25 overs (Sudip Wagh 28, Parag More 25, Abhijit Shirke 23, Vispi Karkariya 26, Saurab Kokate 2/32, Nikhil Kulkarni 2/32) bt Vikhe Patil: 58 in 22 overs (Nikhil Kulkarni 11, Ajay Tayde 4/15, Kazad Ambapardi 2/5, Parag More 2/5).

Muktangan High School: 163 in 25 overs (Varun Gavandi 25, S Khandekar 26, Darshan Balandota 32, Gopal Chandak 3/15) bt New English School, Ramanbaug: 86 in 24 overs (Abhijit Deshmukh 25, darshan Balandote 5/7).
