Hide and seek
Govinda is back to his old way. If you remember, a short while ago, his PRO went about planting items that the dancing wonder had mended his ways. But that’s not true. If you have any doubts ask Pranlal Mehta, who is more or less Chichi’s godfather. He gave Chichi his first break with Love 86 and after that there was no looking back for this Virar da munda. But now Govinda seems to be playing his favourite game hide and seek. Some time ago he had signed Bhoot Bangla with Mehta but the film seems to be stuck. He seems to have gone into hiding while his producers are playing the desperate seekers. Considering the problems Mehta’s had trying to find a distributor for Yugpurush, Govinda should be more considerate.
Manisha’s way
Manisha Koirala and Govinda have more in common than just talent. She too plays truant with her filmmakers. While Govinda has been extremely good during the shooting of Bade Miyan Chote Miyan because of Amitabh’s presence, Manisha has no such qualms. Ifsources are to be believed, she has been delaying K C Bokadia’s schedules of Lal Baadshah. If it is any consolation, he isn’t alone. The producer of Chupa Rustam is also a harassed man because Madame M isn’t being generous with her dates. But there aren’t too many girls with looks and talent which is why Manisha continues to have her way.
Family affair
If Rishi Kapoor can work with both mother and daughter as heroines, then Bollywood’s leading ladies are not far behind. Only last week there was a mahurat of Julm which stars Rekha and Sunny Deol. Dharam — yeah, the garam hero who was often Rekha’s beau in his hey days — sounded the clap. TheBut guess what? Sunny didn’t show up for the mahurat at all and the shot had to be picturised on the heroine alone. Seems like Sunny is a little sheepish about acting opposite his father’s heroine. But Deol’s supporters insist that is not true. First, the two are not cast opposite each other in the film and second, Sunny was laid up in bed which is why he couldnot show up for the mahurat.
Star invasion
Iti’s out in the open now. Somy Ali and Salman are getting married by the end of the year. And that confirmation was written large over Somy’s face at her birthday party, held at the Piano Bar. Salman was all over the place, playing the dutiful husband-to-be. But more than the wedding date, the question on everyone’s lips was: Who was hosting the party, and therefore footing the bill. With these filmwallahs you never really know. Maybe Somy herself, or Salman or Madhoo? Yeah yeah, the Roja girl also had a birthday party at the same venue. Now that she is seeing a society guy she has to do things the posh way. But in the bargain, guess what’s happened? Piano Bar has turned into a filmi haunt. It’s time we started staying away from this place.
Going solo
Perhaps disappointed with the way Ghai let her down, Mahima has now taken charge of her career. Gone are the days when her godfather handled all decisions. Now, Mahima is on her own. And if bigbanners are not coming her way, the pretty girl is being patient and waiting. But she has signed a few mediocre films in the bargain. The most recent being a film with director Manoj Agarwal, who has Pardesi Babu to his credit. The only ray of hope is that the film also stars Govinda. Who know, she may end up as Chichi’s number one and we all know he loves promoting heroines. Since he seems put off Raveena Tandon, this might be Mahima’s lucky day. Coming back to this film, it’s titled Had Kardi Aapne. Mahima could be saying just that to Ghai who has left her out of his Taal.
Our heroines at one time, it seemed, could not part with their tresses. They all sported long, streaked and teased manes that were tossed about with gay abandon. But now, that has changed. We may still not have a Demi Moore ala G I Jane but our leading ladies are getting acquainted with snip, snip of scissors.
